The other year, looking through a newspaper of sound principles, but whose staff WILL persist in "casting" anchors and going to sea "on" a ship (ough!), I came across an article upon the season's yachting. And, behold!

The scandals of the past few years have at last moved the yachting world to concerted action in regard to "bat" boat racing.

At this port (when the season for visitors was at an end) we could embark far more privately than at the popular yachting stations situated in the Isle of Wight.

She got over yachting men from Southampton, parsons from the Cathedral Close at Winchester, and officers from the barracks there.

Now, this gentleman had a younger brother of still better appearance than himself, who had tried life as a Cornet of Dragoons, and found it a bore; and had afterwards tried it in the train of an English minister abroad, and found it a bore; and had then strolled to Jerusalem, and got bored there; and had then gone yachting about the world, and got bored everywhere.

Part of the time, the Milanese use it for a race track, and at other seasons they flood it with water and have spirited yachting regattas there.

In the course of my squirming, however, I rolled over upon a heap of clam-shells--the remains, evidently, of some yachting party's clam-bake.
